When you drive a car, one of the first things you learn is how/when to utilize the breaks & gears; it’s all about when to go fast, slow, stop, and accelerate/slow down. If you were to drive said vehicle at hyper-speed 100% of the time, it will eventually crash, burn, and be permanently destroyed.
Founders; you are that same car when it comes to your startup. You must learn when to dial it back (IE, take a day or two as needed or don’t stress when your first customer takes a bit longer to launch), and when to dial it up (IE, when you’ve got a sticky product with lots of demand in a blue ocean, AKA blitzscaling).
Stop Being An Emotional Snowflake
I used to think, “I always need to be doing something, otherwise I’m not making progress & I’m falling behind in some way, shape, or form”. This couldn't be further from the truth. Taking that day or two to dial it back is working & making progress on those days specifically when you’re the leader of a rapidly growing enterprise that is (or should be…) moving at super-sonic speed. Only amateurish, inexperienced, insecure toddlers (founders) think they need to be doing something at all times, IE hustle porn. Don’t fall into the trap, and if you are, just stop it.
Last Word
Don’t drive your car at 100MPH at all times because that doesn't end well. Save your 100MPH fastball in on the hands for when it’s needed during that blitzscaling period. Moreover, set the gas on/gas off culture at your startup from day 1. Trust me, a great team expects this from their leader.
Now, back to the grind; with gear sensitivity permanently activated.
