Tech Startups: The Modern Day Wall Street
Startups are officially mainstream. Take a walk around most college campuses in America, and you’ll find that a majority of students in business and engineering class are out to work at “high-growth tech startups”, whether it be as engineers, PM’s, or become founders. Silicon Valley has done a fantastic job of marketing & cultivating iconic figures, both from the founder and VC basket. It’s almost impossible today to read through an edition of the Wall Street Journal’s business/tech section, and not come across references to the likes of figures such as Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, or Mark Zuckerberg, and VC firms like Sequoia, Andreessen Horowitz, or Founders Fund.
Due to this advent, there are multiple pros and cons, but there’s an opportunity “in the rough” as well. Let’s break it down:
